In A Blink of An Eye

In a blink of an eye, your life will flash before you. A statement that I've heard many times when I was in high school by the graduating class of that year. When they used to say that to us, freshmen, I honestly wouldn't believe them. Everyone in ninth grade was ready to rush to grow up and excited to experience college life. Some of the previous graduates would come back and visit their old teachers. They would sit in the class and tell us stories about how hard it was being an adult, and how fast life goes after high school. Oh yes, and how could I forget the emphasis they put on how your "responsibilities" increased as an adult. From my perspective, those four years in high school took forever, but once it was over, life went by fast.

As I'm sitting here writing this, I've realized how quickly my life has gone by me. It feels like it was just yesterday that I was graduating from High School. May marked ten years since I've graduated. Oh my goodness, that's insane! Recently I found myself shaking my head as I reflect on what I did within those ten years. Not because I'm not satisfied with what I have accomplished thus far, but all the other things I could have accomplished if I just kept with it. I thought that I had time. In reality, I still have time, but what could have been the result of starting something and seeing it through now, would have been amazing. Whatever you pursue in life will take time, it won't happen overnight. In my mind, I felt that I had to "get ready" before I could even start that particular thing. The truth is, the journey of pursuing your passions alone will prepare you for it. You will be molded into who you need to be along the way. Each part of the journey will leave you better than the last, meaning you will always be evolving into a better version of yourself. So, the best time to start is now.

Trust me; I understand that building something from the ground up is intimidating. You're constantly in the headspace of, "I wonder when this will become successful, or will this be successful." If it's in your heart to pursue something, then it shouldn't have a time limit. Also, the satisfaction shouldn't come from when you will be successful from it. As long as you are happy doing what you love to do it will be successful. Don't wait to start that goal or to pursue your dreams. Start today, and don't give up. Think of it this way, the quicker you begin, the closer you are to seeing the fruits of your labor. Drown out the doubts, fears, timelines, opinions of others, and get out of your way because your life will flash by you in a blink of an eye.
